Communication Specialist

The Communicatio Specialist supports the Communication Lead in designing and implementing the AMI communication strategy. The role ensures stable connectivity for smart meters, retrofit devices, sensors, and EVCs by validating NB-IoT/LoRaWAN/USSD coverage, assessing NB-IoT band availability, coordinating with telecom operators, and supporting field teams. A key responsibility includes matching meter OEM NB-IoT bands with telco-supported bands in regions such as Baku (Bands 3, 8, 20), enabling reliable deployment planning and communication performance.

• Support the Communication Lead in defining AMI communication methods (NB-IoT, LoRa Mesh, LoRaWAN, USSD).

• Evaluate suitability of communication technologies based on band availability, signal quality, and deployment environment.

• Assess NB-IoT band availability across regions (e.g., B3, B8, B20) and match with meter OEM-supported bands.

• Recommend meter OEM communication modules based on telco-supported bands and field readiness.

• Coordinate with telecom operators to confirm band activation, resolve coverage gaps, and align rollout plans.

• Perform field coverage checks including RSSI, RSRP, SINR, and communication stability tests.

• Support field installation teams with communication validation, troubleshooting, and device orientation guidance.

• Assist in evaluating LoRaWAN/LoRa Mesh feasibility in regions with weak NB-IoT coverage.

• Monitor communication KPIs including success rate, retries, latency, and offline duration.

• Investigate communication failures to identify root causes such as band mismatch, network issues, or installation errors.

• Prepare weekly reports, coverage heatmaps, band availability maps, and OEM–telco compatibility matrices.

• Document field test results, communication validations, and troubleshooting procedures.

• Collaborate with Planning Teams for cluster readiness scoring based on communication performance.

• Work with HES/MDMS and Integration Teams during device onboarding and communication failure analysis.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electronics, IT, or related field.

• 2–5 years of experience in IoT connectivity, telecom networks, AMI communication, or smart metering technologies.

• Strong understanding of NB-IoT, including frequency bands (e.g., Band 3, Band 8, Band 20).

• Hands-on experience with field testing tools for RSSI, RSRP, SINR, and signal diagnostics.

• Knowledge of GSM/2G/3G/4G, LoRaWAN, and USSD-based communication mechanisms.

• Ability to evaluate meter OEM band support versus telco network capability.

• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to coordinate with field teams and telecom operators.

• Excellent documentation and reporting skills.

· Fluent in Azerbaijani and English (Russian is preferred)
